Buitenlandse stage dag 2

We started the second day by going over some of the data we measured during the first day and we tried to find out which materials changed. Since the spectra had already been calibrated the day before, we could start straight away with comparing the spectra. We had a hypothesis that only the structure changed and that the molecules only a different pattern. This turned out to be false since the amount of ions detected changed for a few of the ions but not all. This would mean that at least the structure wasn’t the only thing that changed so our hypothesis was wrong. After we came to this conclusion we had lunch at the Mensa again for about an hour. When we came back we practiced some more by analyzing a one euro coin to see if it was actually made of what Wikipedia said it was made of. We ended the day after a few hours because everyone was getting tired and we already worked longer than we had intended.


When I started with my stage I had a few goals:
1. to learn how it is to work in a foreign company.
2. to learn how it is to work in a chemical company
3. to learn how to do a chemical analysis.
4. to learn how to survive in a foreign country.
5. to give the company something to show what they can do.

All of these goals are things which will only fully be completed by the end of the week since they were intended to last a week. I am already starting to learn how to do a chemical analysis and how it is to work in a foreign/chemical company.
